Theory explains how Khao Lak so much devastated
| on Wednesday, January 05 @ 12:43:21 GMT+7 BANGKOK (Manager Daily)- Indonesia's Sumatra Island has somehow helped protect Thailand's resort island of Phuket from direct salvos of walls of water on December 26. Without this natural protection Phuket could be the worst scene of the disaster, according to a finding by Thai-Japanese Tsunami Survey Team.
The theory also explains how Pang Nga's Khao Lak beaches have been destructed by the ocean waves, said Seri Supataratit of Natural Research Centre, Rangsit University.

Official death toll rises to 5200 from Tsunami
| on Tuesday, January 04 @ 16:49:49 GMT+7 BANGKOK, Jan 4 (TNA) - The official death toll from last week's tsunamis has reached nearly 5,200, with over 8,000 injured and nearly 4,000 still missing. According to the latest figures from the government's tsunami relief centre yesterday evening, 5,187 people died in the tragedy, while 8,457 were still injured and 3,810 remained missing. Phang-nga bore the brunt of the disaster, with 4,077 deaths and 5,597 injured. Thailand's six southern Andaman provinces were hit--unprecedentedly--by the tsunamis, caused by one of the world's strongest earthquakes in the Indonesian resort island of Sumatra, on 26 December. They include Phuket, Phang-nga, Krabi, Trang, Ranong and Satun. (TNA)--
